Mixed Martial Arts Training Tips

There are three important areas to focus on when training for mixed martial arts. In order to be good in MMA, you need to train the following areas and become comfortable and proficient in each. Here they are:

1. Your Ground Game.

This consists mainly of wrestling, with some submission training thrown in. Basically you need to choose a form of grappling to train and become decent at. Ju-Jitsu is a good choice, as it combines both grappling with submissions and is highly effective in mixed martial arts.

2. Your Stand up Game.

Here you have to train your stand up game which will consist of some form of a striking art, such as boxing or kick boxing. A good choice for your stand up game training is muay thai. This focuses on both striking and kicking, as well as clinching and knee strikes. It's very effective for mixed martial arts.

3. The Cardio game.

This is extremely important and should be seen as a strong area of focus as a mixed martial arts training tip. You can be technically great at your ground game and your stand up game, but if your cardiovascular training is not good, then you can easily be beat by an average fighter who isn't as well versed in the ground or stand up game as you are. That's how important cardiovascular training is.

There are many forms of cardio that are highly effective. A good mixed martial arts training guide will put together an efficient and effective cardiovascular training routine tailored towards fighting, as well as providing optimal training methods for both your ground game and your stand up game.

Games For Kids

There are many great ways to encourage children to be imaginative. In many ways they automatically gravitate to natural creativity by playing pretend and other forms of games. When kids play pretend it allows them to grow in ways that define their interests while exercising their mind. Parents should take care to make that extra effort to provide children with learning materials and even programs that are focused on pretend play.

From a very early age children pick up on things like acting and singing through playing pretend. School plays are a part of most people's backgrounds and make for the start to a full blown hobby for some. Why not put on a play at home? Select a story that the kids know well and designate characters. A backyard play in the summer can be a great way to pass time when the kids are on summer holidays. Keeping them busy is a nice break for Mom too.

Get the kids involved in costume design for the play they will put on. Even an old sheet or curtain can become something else with some decorative features like sequins and glitter. When you allow kids to take over and run wild with their imagination, the things they come up with might surprise you. Help by doing any necessary cutting or sewing then turn them loose with decorative supplies. Feathers, rhinestones and ribbons all make great materials for this task.

If your children have an exceptional love for the dramatic arts that go along with playing pretend, consider enrolling them in a drama class. Even preschool children can have fun with this. Dressing up and pretending to be someone else like a superhero is excitement we can all relate to. Get in on the act by taking on a role alongside your children.

There are plenty of great online options for games that get your child into playing pretend. A simple search will turn up more great educational game sites than you will ever need. Most children are learning to use the computer at a much younger age as well. Increase their skills by signing them on to child friendly game sites. Puzzles, match games and even card games are all easily accessible via the internet. Be sure to always enforce child safety through the internet as well by ensuring sites are suited to the child's age and skill level.

PS3 Downloads

The PS3 has a few tricks up its sleeve that can really make you understand why the console itself is so expensive, but you can easily offset that if you find some free PS3 downloads. There are a few things that you'll need to look out for though, and here's a rundown on what they are:

First up, you'll need to find a reliable and trustworthy website-and by that I don't mean a torrent or P2P site-these are not trustworthy! Sure, you may be able to find a PS3 download or two at places like that, but rest assured each time you connect you are leaving your computer open for all kinds of hackers and cowboys to get access. Do you really want people like that ruining your PS3 for you? That is not the best way to get downloads.

Secondly, you'll need to make sure you have the right software and equipment. You can't put the PS3 downloads directly only your PS3, they will have to go onto your computer first and be transferred, which may require special software for your computer. You'll find that some of the less trustworthy sites will only let you download stuff from them if you first buy the conversion software. It can seem like a good deal, that is until you find somewhere that will give you the whole lot for free.

Thirdly, you need to stay within the law. PS3 downloads are pretty cool, and in some cases they probably will seem like the most important thing in the world, but let me as you this, is it really worth going to jail or getting a big fine for the sake of a free PS3 download? Many download sites are completely illegal, and there's never been more chance for you to get caught. Modern computing technology is very advanced-if some cheesy popup ads can get your IP address and use it in their advertising, imagine what the cops and the FBI can do?

The fourth tip, and probably the most helpful one, is to not be afraid to pay for quality. It takes a while to find them, but there really are some sites out there on the net that offer completely free PS3 downloads, the only catch is that you have to pay a one off fee to access them. It's a pretty good bargain, as the fee is usually less than $50, and that will set you up for life-free access to all the games, movies and TV shows etc you could ever want, in superfast high quality PS3 downloads. $50 seems steep at first, but think of it this way-the PS2 was super popular for 8 years, and the PS3 is just getting started. Do you think you can download more than $50 worth of stuff over the next 8 years? Now do see how good a deal it is?

One-Day Cricket

One-day cricket differs significantly from first class cricket. A one- day match is played on a single day. Either a red or a white cricket ball may be used, and play under artificial lighting is allowed.

Each team gets only one innings, and that innings is restricted to a maximum number of overs. Usual choices for the number of overs are 50, 55, or 60. Each innings is complete at the end of the stipulated number of overs, no matter how many batsmen are out. If ten batsmen are out before the full number of overs are bowled, the innings is also over. If the first team's innings ends in this manner, the second team still has its full number of overs to score the required runs. The timing of the innings and the break between them are not regulated.

Whichever team scores the most runs wins. A tied score stands. There is no draw result. If the match is washed out, so that the innings are not played, the game is declared a no-result.

In each innings, each bowler is restricted to bowling a maximum number of overs equal to one fifth of the total number of overs in the innings. Either a single new ball is used for each innings, or two new balls which are alternated between overs. (This is often done with white balls because they wear much faster than red balls.) New balls are never taken during an innings, but replacements for lost or damaged balls are taken as in first class matches.

In case of rain interruption to the first innings, the number of overs for each innings is recalculated so that they will be the same. If rain interrupts the second innings, making it impossible for an equal number of overs to be bowled, the number of runs scored by the first team is adjusted to compensate. There is no standard adjustment formula - one is decided beforehand for any given competition. There is also a predetermined number of overs which must be bowled in each innings for any result to be considered valid; if this limit is not reached the game is a no-result.

Because of the emphasis on scoring runs quickly, wide balls are enforced much more strictly in one-day cricket.

One-day competitions are played either as Series between pairs of international teams, round-robin competitions between groups of international teams, or round-robins between domestic teams. A World Cup one-day competition is played between all the Test nations each four years.

Video Game Violence

According to Patrick Masell, recently the media has bombarded Americans with images and stories concerning a popular and morally corrupt video game called "Grand Theft Auto." GTA 3 and its sequel GTA: Vice City has sparked record sales as well as protests and news reports across the globe. Most of these reports and protests question the game's graphic content and the effects it may have on its audience, especially teenagers.

However, GTA was not the first series of video games to create such a stir in this country. "Mortal Kombat" a fighting game known for its amount of blood and gore deaths, hit arcades in 1992 and home consoles the next year. The question of how graphic violence in video games influences this nation's youth have been debated for over a decade. Violent video games have few, if any, adverse effects on the vast majority of its audience and those who are negatively influenced often are unstable to begin with.

Two features of video games fuel renewed interest by researchers, public policy makers, and the general public. First, the active role required by video games is a double-edged sword. It helps educational video games be excellent teaching tools for motivational and learning process reasons. But, it also may make violent video games even more hazardous than violent television or cinema. Second, the arrival of a new generation of ultraviolent video games beginning in the early 1990s and continuing unabated to the present resulted in large numbers of children and youths actively participating in entertainment violence that went way beyond anything available to them on television or in movies. Recent video games reward players for killing innocent bystanders, police, and prostitutes, using a wide range of weapons including guns, knives, flame throwers, swords, baseball bats, cars, hands, and feet. Some include cut scenes (i.e., brief movie clips supposedly designed to move the story forward) of strippers. In some, the player assumes the role of hero, whereas in others the player is a criminal.

Ten Tips to Winning Chess

Getting Started

Chess is a game of strategy and tactics. Each player commands an army of 16 chessmen --- pawns and other pieces (the king, queen, bishops, knights, and rooks).

A well-played chess game has three stages. In the opening, the players bring out their forces in preparation for combat. The middlegame begins as the players maneuver for position and carry out attacks and counterattacks. The final stage is the endgame when, with fewer pawns and pieces left on the board, it is safer for the kings to come out and join the final battle.

As play proceeds, each player will capture some of the opponent's men; often, the capturing pieces are immediately recaptured. As long as the piece a player gives up is generally equal to the piece he gets in return, we say the players are exchanging. If you unintentionally place a piece where it can be captured without getting a piece of equal value in return, we say that you put that piece en prise. (This is a French term that literally means "in take.") Sometimes a player may place a piece en prise in order to trick an opponent. If the opponent captures the offered man, it may leave him open to attack.

You're Ready to Go!

It's time for you to take a look at these ten tips to help you learn some simple ways to win more games:

  1. Look at your opponent's move.
  2. Make the best possible move.
  3. Have a plan.
  4. Know what the pieces are worth.
  5. Develop quickly and well.
  6. Control the center.
  7. Keep your king safe.
  8. Know when to trade pieces.
  9. Think about the endgame.
  10. Always be alert.
Don't rush. Take your time and be sure to study the examples carefully. Then go out and practice - and have some fun!

Duck Hunting

Wild ducks have been hunted for food, down, and feathers worldwide since prehistoric times. Ducks, geese, and swans appear in European cave paintings from the last Ice Age, and murals in Ancient Egyptian tombs show men in hunting blinds capturing swimming ducks in a trap.

By the turn of the century, commercial hunting and loss of habitat lead to a decline in duck and goose populations in North America. The Lacey Act of 1900, which outlawed transport of poached game across state lines, and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, which prohibited the possession of migratory birds without permission (such as a hunting license), marked the dawn of the modern conservation movement.

In 1934 the US government passed the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act, better known as the Federal Duck Stamp Act. This program required hunters to purchase a special stamp, in addition to a regular hunting license. Revenues from the program provided the majority of funding for duck conservation for many decades and funded the purchase of 4.5 million acres of National Wildlife Refuge land for waterfowl habitat since the program's inception.

Duck hunting season is generally in the winter and fall. At this time of the year, the birds have finished raising their young and are migrating to warmer areas. There are three elements used by almost all duck hunters: a shotgun, a hunting blind, and decoys. The decoys are used to lure the birds within range, and the blind conceals the hunter. Once the birds are within range, the hunters stand up in the blind and shoot the birds before they are frightened off.

The most commonly used guns are 12 gauge shotguns. In many areas, buckshot and larger shot is illegal to use for taking migratory birds. Ten, 16, and 20 gauge shotguns are also used. Taking birds with a rifle is illegal due to the inherent danger of shooting long-range bullets into the air.

Duck hunting with lead shot, along with the use of lead sinkers in angling, has been identified as a major cause of lead poisoning in waterfowl, which often feed off the bottom of lakes and wetlands where lead shot collects. In the United States all shot used for ducks must not contain any lead. Steel is the cheapest alternative to lead but steel has a much less effective range than lead because of its lower density. 30 to 40 yards is considered the maximum effective range for duck hunting.

Although steel is the most used shot, many hunters do not like its shooting properties. Steel is less dense than lead, therefore, its effective range is decreased due to a faster decrease in velocity. Many companies have improved steel shot by increasing muzzle-velocity and making more consistent 'shot' or pellets. Within recent years, several companies have created 'heavier than lead' non-toxic shot out of Tungsten, Bismuth or other elements with a density similar or greater to lead. These shells have more consistent patterns and greater range than steel shot.

Originally, a duck call was a very simple woodwind instrument. It had a barrel, a sounding board and a reed. Hunters would grunt into the call while saying "hut", "quit" or "ut". With the improvement of calls and calling techniques the best callers are able to use no voice. The most prevalent and hunted duck in the United States, the mallard, makes the well known "quack" sound many associate with ducks. Other species make many different sounds, ranging from high-pitched whistles to very low, grunt-like quacks. There are calls for almost all species of ducks. Pintails, teal, wood ducks, diving ducks and other ducks including the calls of both the male, or drake and the female, or hen.

In many species, the call of the drake is different from that of the hen. Mallard drakes make a lower pitch, longer quack than the hen mallard. This call is often used while feeding and when a mallard drake is landing. The quack of a mallard drake requires voice and is replicated by humming into a special whistle-like call. This whistle is often called a 6-in-1 whistle, due to the fact that it can replicate six different duck species sounds.

In teal, the drakes make a call of short bursts of a high pitch whistle. The "teet! (pause) teet! (pause) teet!-teet!" or any other order of repetition. This call can be made by blowing short bursts of air into the "6-in-1" whistle.

The majority of duck sounds people have heard and are familiar with comes from females, or hen, mallards. Hen mallards are very vocal and this is probably why the number one call for duck hunting in North America is a hen mallard call.

There are numerous types of structures that qualify as duck blinds. Blinds can be temporary or permanent. They are very effective at concealing hunters and making their movements un-noticed. For hunting over water, the types of blinds are almost unlimited. Many of these permanent blinds look like a small shack with an opening that faces the water and a portion of the sky.

Often creating a temporary, natural blind as a method of concealment is a hunter's best bet. This is done by using native grasses or vegetation and natural material and simply hiding in a tree, clump of grass or a shrub. More sophisticated natural blinds may have large logs or branches leaned together or tied together using rope. Temporary blinds are common in protected and public areas where a permanent blind is not allowed. Temporary blinds can be very simple and usually require a three dimensional enclosure to conceal hunters from circling flocks.

With the growing popularity of boats in duck hunting, many have chosen to use boat blinds. Boat blinds are used to conceal a hunter when hunting out of a boat.

Duck season takes place in the fall and winter where the weather can be harsh. Waterproof clothing is critical to duck hunting. Most duck hunters hunt over water, and they stand in water or in a boat. In order to stand in the water and stay dry the hunter must wear waders. Waders are waterproof pants that have attached boots and are completely waterproof. Typical waders are chest high, but waist high and knee high waders are sometimes used in shallow water. Duck hunting can be a very cold sport and the hunter must be well insulated from the cold. Ducks also have great vision which requires the hunters clothing to be well camouflaged.

Duck hunters often use a dog to retrieve downed birds. Most often hunters use retrievers, and sometimes spaniels. The use of a dog provides a number of advantages. As duck hunting often takes place in cold wet locations, the use of a dog frees the hunter from having to wade into cold water to retrieve the bird. This can be dangerous for the hunter, but is managed by a trained dog easily. It also allows for the recovery of wounded birds that might otherwise escape.

Duck hunting is highly regulated. Hunters are required to obtain a hunting license and face limits on the number of birds that can be taken in a day (bag limits) and the total number of birds a hunter can possess (possession limits).

In the United States, hunters must also purchase a federal duck stamp and often a state stamp. It is illegal to shoot ducks from a motor vehicle, a moving boat, or to shoot sitting or swimming ducks. Many practices that were once common in commercial duck hunting before the turn of the century are now prohibited. In most areas, shotguns that can hold more than two or three shells must be modified to reduce their magazine size. Legal hunting
is done "in-season" only. It is also considered good sportsmanship to make every attempt to retrieve dead or injured waterfowl the hunter has shot.

Brain games aim to boost your IQ

Smart thinking

Dr Kawashima's Brain Training has sold some 1.8 million copies, and it is still in the Japanese top 10 a year after release.

But the brain training games' success is down to more than just a neat gameplay gimmick.

Unlike Nintendo's fictional creations, such as Donkey Kong or Mario, Dr Kawashima really is a leading Japanese brain expert.

A graduate of the Tohuku University School of Medicine, Dr Kawashima works at the same university's New Industry Creation Hatchery Centre, and is one of the country's top researchers into brain imaging.

He is also a best-selling author. His two books on brain training have sold more than a million copies in Japan.

Nintendo's President Satoru Iwata personally shepherded the idea of a brain-enhancing game through production.

It originally arose from a remark by a member of Nintendo's board of directors that he knew nobody his own age who played games.

And Mr Iwata sought Dr Kawashima's involvement, seeing the two men's similar fifty-something ages as common ground.

It is all a long way from a typical video game's development, and the differences continue in the older, non-gamers that Nintendo is explicitly targeting with the title.

Dr Kawashima's Brain Training will be the first video game ever to be advertised and featured in Saga magazine, for instance.

"As these new types of games gain in popularity, we must find new and different ways to bring them to new audiences, many of whom will have never played a traditional videogame before," explained a Nintendo spokesperson.

Shoot Lower Golf Scores Quickly

The first thing you need to learn is how to putt. There are many grips and putting styles you can use. A good tip to keep in mind is to make sure your eyes are directly over the ball during your putting stance as this will help you to see the line better. A great way to learn a putting style is to simply pick your favorite golfer and copy their putting style. Remember that if they are on the PGA tour using that putting style then it obviously works so just pick one style you like and then stick with it.

Remember to spend most of your putting practice time hitting short putts inside of ten feet. Short putts are the foundation of a solid putting game and they can make a huge difference as far as lowering your golf scores. The next key aspect of golf are the short shots around the green like the bunker shots, chip and flop shots.

With bunker shots you want to open your stance which means your feet are aligned to the left of the target if you are a right handed player and then you need to pick a spot around 3 inches behind then ball and hit that spot using a cushion of sand to lift the ball out of the bunker. With chip shots you want to place the ball further back in your stance towards your right foot and use a downward blow to hit the ball. Also maintain a straight line between the left hand and the club shaft through impact.

When hitting flop shots you will need at least a 60 degree wedge and place the ball further up in your stance closer to your left foot. Also make sure the lie is ideal for a flop shot which means there should be a cushion beneath the ball that will allow you to easily slide the club under the ball so you can hit a high shot that has a lot of spin.

Learning how to hit wedge shots between 40 and 150 yards is the next key element of golf. These are your money shots and they can make a huge difference in your scores. The ball should be positioned towards the center of your stance. Developing touch with these shots is a function of consistent practice so make sure you put in the time necessary to learn these shots. Also try to avoid too much mechanical thoughts when hitting any golf shot, simply pick a target and make the swing. If you need to practice mechanics do it without hitting any balls because the result will usually not be very consistent.

Your mid irons are the next step in learning how to play this game. Most people simply swing far too hard when it comes to the full swing. You need to relax and let the club do the work. Look at how many thin players there are on the PGA tour, this is proof that you do not need to muscle the club in order to get great distance and accuracy. Always swing well within yourself and maintain good balance.

Games Tackle Disaster Training

The new approach is expected to save money -- but it can also prepare many professionals and volunteers quickly in the event of a health emergency, like the potential bird-flu pandemic.

"These games let people train on their own schedules," said Eric Holdeman, an expert in disaster relief and director of Washington state's King County Office of Emergency Management. "And it gets us away from death by PowerPoint in the typical classroom environment. It's also cost-effective."

The first game, which took three months to develop, trains health workers to respond to an anthrax outbreak. A massive flu pandemic simulation is in the works.

Players learn how to set up MASH sites, evaluate patients and dispense drugs. They also are trained to distribute medications to health-care sites and notify the public, instructing people on what to do -- without instilling panic.

The game also helps health workers and volunteers cross-train for more than one job. Crisis teams are typically understaffed. The scoring helps players determine what they are good at and what skills they need to sharpen.

A multiplayer prototype is being developed to train teams of health specialists to work together.

There are about 23 different roles for each crisis, and each scenario requires different training, explained Dr. Colleen Monahan, an epidemiologist and the simulations' lead programmer.

"Avian flu is a real challenge, because people will be really scared," she said. "Fifty percent of people who get avian flu die, regardless of age. Quarantines, keeping people away from each other, will be difficult. Our approach helps people train for multiple tasks and role-play with each other without the cost and on their own schedules."

Traditionally, health-care workers are trained by role-playing or watching videos. The simulations won't entirely replace conventional approaches, Monahan said, but they will shorten and focus the face-to-face training.

The game was originally developed for the Chicago Public Health Department, but the CDC and other agencies, embarrassed by the response to Hurricane Katrina and other recent disasters, are keen to adopt new tools that will help them be more prepared when the next crisis hits.

Vitamins And Minerals For Sports

Vitamins and minerals are important at many stages of life, and for those who are involved in sports the results are no different. Sporting events and strains require additional vitamins and minerals so you experience the most your body can be while you are participating in that sport.
Vitamins and minerals for sports involve all those that your body is going to use while you are participating in that sport, in the cold air, or in the warm hot summer air. As you are straining your body to participate and play in any sport, you could feel that you are tired, but by taking the correct types and amounts of vitamins on a regular basis your body is going to feel refreshed. As you feel refreshed, you will be able to participate and continue in your sport longer than if you were not using any type of vitamins. Vitamins are used by your body as you run, jog and as you do any type of movements. Movements that make you sweat are going to use up more vitamins than you might realize. Water is another important feature that athletes are going to need and require while continuing in their sport. If you are not eating many fresh fruits and vegetables, you could be using up the vitamins and minerals in your body and then you will find it more difficult to continue with your sporting activity. Your use of vitamins and minerals in your diet, before and after sporting events is going to increase your abilities during those sports. While not all sports are considered strenuous, you could find that you will feel more awake, more often when using vitamins in your daily diet because you are providing your body with everything you need to be more energetic even if you are sweating and working out every day. Every sporting event that you find as a challenge is going to work your muscles. To continue making those muscles work properly and continuously a good daily vitamin is going to aid your body in replenishing those vitamins and nutrients you use. Check out the various links and sites that are included on this page so you can find the best sports vitamins and nutrients for your personal needs.

Sports Training

Nearly two years after Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig asked former United States Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell to conduct an investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs in MLB, Senator Mitchell’s report is expected to be released in the coming days. While Senator Mitchell and MLB officials haven’t yet announced when Mitchell’s report will be released from a public relations perspective, this Thursday November 29 would be the perfect day.

The MLB Winter Meetings begin next Monday. Presenting the report during the Winter Meetings would turn the focus of the Winter Meetings to the Mitchell Report. Offering the report after the Winter Meetings wouldn’t make much sense. The media might be ‘angry’ if after heading to Nashville for next week’s Winter Meetings, MLB announced one of the most important and potentially controversial reports in recent years immediately following the Winter Meetings. Two days from now works perfectly. While we’re living in a 24-hour, seven days-a-week news cycle news and sports reporting world, if the report is unveiled Thursday, the results will be everywhere Friday; the weekend sports fans’ focus will be on this weekend’s college and NFL games. That said, what may make sense from a public relations perspective may not make sense to Major League Baseball when it comes to the Mitchell Report.

Prompted by the revelations in the best selling book Game of Shadows (excerpts from the book appeared in Sports Illustrated in March 2006), on March 30, 2006 Selig announced he had authorized an investigation into reported steroid use by Major League Baseball players associated with the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative (BALCO). Selig made it clear Senator Mitchell and his team of investigators would have complete autonomy in their investigation.

"Nothing is more important to me than the integrity of the game of baseball," Commissioner Selig said at the time. "The unique circumstances surrounding BALCO and the evidence revealed in a recently published book have convinced me that Major League Baseball must undertake this investigation.

"Senator Mitchell is one of the most respected public figures in the nation. His career in public service is beyond reproach and his integrity and leadership ability are beyond question. Major League Baseball is fortunate and pleased to have a person of such high character and acclaim to lead this investigation."

Senator Mitchell said on that day: "I accept the responsibility placed on me by the Commissioner in full recognition of the seriousness of the many issues raised by the task. The allegations arising out of the BALCO investigation that Major League players have used steroids and other illegal performance-enhancing drugs have caused fans and observers to question the integrity of play at the highest level of our national game. These allegations require close scrutiny."

For those who may have forgotten, the probe originally was only going to focus on events since September 2002, when the sport first began testing for performance-enhancing drugs, but Selig and Mitchell have the authority to expand it.
